B.C. port workers vote no to tentative agreement | CBC News

For the second time, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has voted no to a tentative deal with the B.C. Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA). 

This is the second time the longshore workers’ union has rejected a deal in the B.C. port strike

For the second time, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has voted no to a tentative deal with the B.C. Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA). 

The two sides have been negotiating a new collective agreement since March but went on strike from July 1 to 13 after getting stuck in a deadlock.

The job action froze billions of dollars worth of goods from ports across B.C., including Canada’s largest in Vancouver.

“Today we call on our direct employers to come to the table and negotiate something that works for our members and the industry,” says a statement posted to the ILWU’s Facebook page Friday evening. 

Last week the union recommended members accept the tentative deal.
