Connor Bedard scored in overtime to lift Canada to a 4-3 win over Slovakia in a quarterfinal match at the world junior hockey championship in Halifax on Thursday.
Bedard also scored in the opening frame. Dylan Guenthe and Zack Ostapchuk also found the net for Canada. Robert Baco and Libor Nemec, twice, replied for Slovakia.
17-year-old phenom Bedard set three records with his first goal of the match. He now has the most career points by a Canadian player with 33, the most career goals by a Canadian player with 16 and the most points in a single tournament by a Canadian player with 20.
Canada will play the U.S. in a semifinal on Wednesday. Czech Republic and Sweden will play that same day for the other spot in the tournament’s final.
