The winner of a $2.8-million Jays Care Foundation jackpot has been found after a week-long search, Toronto’s Blue Jays’ charitable arm said Tuesday.

The winning number was announced on May 1, but until now, no one had come forward to claim the prize.

Several media outlets reported on the missing prize winner. It took Blue Jay fans and media outlets a week to finally locate the winner, Deb, who refers to herself as “the Blue Jays number one fan,” the foundation said in an email.

The Hamilton region resident purchased 250 tickets for $100 at the stadium on April 11. One of those tickets had the winning number.

According to Jays Care, an amount matching the jackpot will also be invested in the foundation’s programs across Ontario to make sports and physical activity more accessible for kids and youth.
