Canada’s Danielle Dorris claims gold for 2nd Paralympic medal in Tokyo | CBC Sports

It’s the second medal at these Games for the Moncton, N.B., athlete, who previously captured a silver in the S7 100-metre backstroke. 

Her achievement closes out her competition run on the last day of the Para swimming competition in Tokyo. 

Mallory Weggemann of the United States won silver, and Giulia Terzi of Italy won bronze. It’s Terzi’s fifth medal in five events in Tokyo.

Dorris kicked things off by swimming a world-record 33.51 seconds in her qualifying heat to reach the medal race.

When the 18-year-old dove into the pool during her final, she utilized her expertise under water to pop up ahead of her competition. There was no challenging the swimmer for the gold, as Dorris took it in emphatic fashion. 

After she saw her time, Dorris laughed and tipped her head forward, pressing it to the side of the pool. 

The swimmer debuted when she was just 13-years-old in Rio 2016.
